Girls are in danger of losing sight of their educational dreams. Early pregnancies and early marriages are increasing at alarming rates, stealing the dreams of schoolgirls. The Covid stay-at-home orders followed by high inflation have caused significant food insecurities and have led to an increase in early marriages. Families find there is not enough food to go around. This has caused some parents to marry off their young daughters (as young as 10!) because they can not afford to feed them.
Early pregnancies have also increased as at-risk adolescent girls offer themselves in return for necessities like food or pads. GCC-K is starting a program to assist these new young mothers, offering parenting classes and support groups.
Grace Community Center is requesting funds to provide relief packages for at-risk girls containing essentials like food and washable pads.
D4G was pleased to introduce Divinely Placed, a ministry in Nakuru, Kenya, to the DfG feminine hygiene kits and educational program. After the organizers saw how the health education and their 20 new hygiene kits empowered the girls, they ordered another 30 kits. Over the following months, they were pleasantly surprised by the renewed joy and confidence they witnessed in each girl.
In Liberia, hundreds of schoolgirls are eagerly awaiting a shipment of 1,600 US-made kits. They are so thankful for our US volunteers!
The Grace Community Center's sewing enterprise in Kisii, Kenya, created and distributed over 1,000 kits in 2021. These Kenyan ladies hope to sew even more kits in 2022 but fear the cost of materials.
Please help D4G fund the sewing and distributing of kits!
